Be one with nature and take care of our life-supporting planet and respect its limits
The headline is a straight forward advice as we humans, we dissipative structures, all depend on the green plants ability to capture solar energy into an edible form. It is the basis of life and with no photosynthesis, no human life and almost no other life. This is not the only thing in nature we depend on however. Ecosystems provide a lot of functions and resources that help us to prosper. The caveat is that all these ecosystems and the resources have limits and they live as we do on a finite planet.
Furthermore as can be understood by their name the ecosystems are systems and being systems they are full of surprises and uncertainty that human knowledge will probably never fully grasp. By embracing our human ignorance about ecosystems and the limits of their functions and resources we can approach these limits and the life they give us with respect and at the same time hand ourselves a chance to prosper within limits.
