Organize differently to share the power and wealth
One of the sources of inequality, both income inequality and wealth inequality, are the economic institutions we are employed by.
Organizing differently and sharing power and wealth through employee owned companies would bring us the benefits of social emancipation, putting scale of earnings under democratic control, improve productivity, bring the experience of being part of a community, improve sociability in the society and make us freer of hierarchical division and status seeking. In short making the world more equal.
Bringing company closer to community could, feeling responsible for the effect of the company’s activities on people and planet. When more equality means more environmental friendliness through less conspicuous consumption an employee owned companies could thus bring about both equality and a more environmental caring world.
There are of course other ways that we could organize for a better world but this shows that companies doesn’t have to be formed for external shareholder profit to do and be good. It could be formed by its people and for its people.
